snow miser/heat miser

So, this took forever. Not to draw but to get both parts finished. So long in fact that two seasons passed... and with that comes the story. Son's half was done near the end of summer, it was hot, I was sweating buckets drawing down on a bench at the ocean. I quite enjoyed myself but ran out of time that day to do my half...then came work...blah blah...we all get it, i hate making excuses but it happens to the best of us.

Now Mine I did this morning, freezing in my room, hoodie pulled up, heater cranked. The levels aren't 100% in this scan but you may be able to pick out son's vibrant orange colorings, goes nicely with the warm weather in which it was drawn. If I had an ice blue felt I would have used it for mine...instead I went with dull desaturated brown, sort of an opposite colder feeling to the warm saturation in son's portrait.

To end, Julie, I'll get this in the mail to you today...I promise. Maybe it'll even get it time for xMas...maybe I'll wrap it :)

Also and Plus Josh's Moleskine

So we got Josh's here as well, and right after this I have Jennifer's to start on. Josh listed pugilism as one of his traits...and I sketched some other ideas involving wilderness, chickens, distillerys...but I couldnt help it. I had to come back to an all out brawl of the Title's, the Name's. Hopefully the double knockout makes it all better.

Brett's Moleskine

So I just wrapped these up and I just read Brett's post. Seems like a lot of groups are getting quagmires, I certainly understand how busy life gets as well. Im of the mindset that rather than drop out, just have books skip you, then work on them later in their cycles when you have time. Anyway, hope you like these entries.

i'm sad

hi everyone.... i cannot believe how neglectful i've been... i've got two moleskines, which are yet to be drawn in, and i feel so behind. i recently just got a full time job and i've also been preparing for several shows and events i'm participating in later this month and next year... so, is it against the moleskine portrait party rules to drop out? i'd be disappointed in myself, but time has really become an unavoidable issue...
i check my email more often than my blogs, so please email me and let me know your thoughts.

Morissa's Moley

Morissa seems to be a funky gal who digs her duds, so I glued on some cool paper as fabrics, but it doesn't really show in this scanned version... I now have Josh's to do (Burggraf), but I will send this one first to spread them out again. Stay Tuned...

Moly Eschange 005

This is pretty much finished. I tried to keep the bricks going from Julie's portion into mine. This was done in ink and watercolor ( which isn't working too good for me in these mollies, even though in my own I use watercolors profusely ) and some colored pencil. I have a couple of small details and a little cleaning up to do and then it's off to Chickenmaster Josh.

Feeling a little rusty

Julie, I read in your bio that you liked rusty things. Been feeling a bit rusty myself, thought it was appropriate. Hope you like it.

Your book is looking awesome!!!!

eggheads!

So I decided to stick with the chicken/bird theme for Josh's moly. We are just two eggs in a nest here! Sorry for the bad quality, I took this using my web came (so its also backwards)
hope you all like it! I sent it off today

Moly Portrait 005

I started to work on Emon Xie's book. I used the photo of him in a tuxedo which inspired me to come up with the 007esque theme. So far just india ink, i'm guessing i'm going to use some watercolor and perhaps some colored pencils. Josh, Aaron's book is on his way to you so look out for that ! I'm going to work on Emon Xie's book diligently. I plan to have it done as soon as possible. School and work are getting in the way but i will make the time!

knit

I finished Claire's moly!

Claire knows how cold is winter in Montréal, so she knitted a nice little outfit for me to stay warm :)
Claire's book is now ending its journey across Canada, I will send it to Rob this week!

Dot Matrix

went back to an old trick I learned as a kid...fun but time consuming. I couldn't compete with the style that is e... bold, flowing and full of excitement. So, I went with rigid ruled lines.
Julie: this will be on it's way to you pronto!

morissa final stage :)

yhihaaa, finally done with morrissa's moly. hope u like it morissa :D
i accidently drew that line on the next page. im sooo sorry for the next, hope u can manage that accident somehow T_T.

It's DORK, not DORE!

Apparently there's been some confusion. You see, I must have told one of my stupid jokes, and somebody called me a dork. So far, nothing out of the ordinary. However, Julie must have overheard and thought the listener called me dore, which, if you put a little accent thingy over the "e," means "golden" in French. From that, Julie figured I must be some kind of genetically modified chicken, one who not only tells bad jokes, but lays golden (dore) eggs. Being the entrepreneurial type, Julie locks me in with the chickens, and waits. I drew in the little thought bubble to really drive the point home.

You Are Here......

I finally had a chance to get to Kip's book this weekend. I've had the travel bug real bad lately, and I just got this super cool world map that takes up a full wall in my studio. That's kind of where I got my inspiration from. The Chickenmaster was a tough act to follow.I'll be mailing this to Brett on Monday. Hope everyone is having a great summer!

Moly?

Hey everyone... I have not received a moleskine in the mail yet....? I;m not sure who's I am supposed to be drawing in either...

BAR FIGHT !!

Here are a couple of Polaroids of me and death by monkeys after a bar brawl !!! Us Moly Xchangers have to stick together. I used watercolor, colored pencils, india ink, and markers. The watercolor was working fine on death by monkeys, but when I was using the watercolor on my face it started soaking in really quickly (weird). Anyway I think it came out pretty good (the watercolor ) I'm a big fan of plaid so I might keep it as my personal theme for this exchange. This book is about 85% done. A little more tightening up and it'll be on it's way to Chicken Master Josh. Hope you like it DBM!!!

Gabi? ...again?

Hey, has anyone had any word from Gabi? The moleys are cruising along, but unless Son has Gabi's right now, by the time they get to the bottom of the list there may be a back log if they all end up in her mailbox. Should we bypass her and have Josh (Lars) send straight to Son? At least until we hear something from her??? Not trying to pressure her, but everyone is onto their second or third entry and we haven't even seen her first one...

EmonXie: Round Three!

E likes urban art, so I tried to give to his portrait a stencil look. It's made with marker, gouache, india ink and color pencil. I hope you like it!

In keeping with the apparent theme of birds and feathers, this is my sketchy little entry into Josh's Moleskine.....

We're all superfluous

I call it "Josh Looking At Rob The Chicken Nest With Amusement As Crow Flies Above And Pointy Mountain Letting Off Steam."

I think Rob looks particularly fashionable. And I hope that someday I'll have my own crow to fly about my head. In the mountains.

P.S.

ALSO, wow, I love the new header!

Oh My!

Sorry for not having blogged in a while! I've got Josh's Moleskine right now, still working on it... I've been quite busy with commissions lately, so I apologize for the lack of communication! I'll get Josh's drawing finished soon though :}
Take care everyone!

Hope everyone doesn't mind, but I did up a quick header and will add Gabi's entry when she posts her portrait (hence the black gap). ;) Let me know if anyone wants changes or has objections. I know they aren't in order ;)

Done with Julie's book !

I just finished Julie's book, it was sitting at my drawing table waiting for some final touches which I finally got to. I'm way happier with the portrait I did of Julie than the one of myself but all in all I'm pretty satisfied. This will be on it's way to Josh very soon. Julie I hope you like it ! Oh and I received Death by Monkey's book the other day so I'll have some photos of that soon. It's kind of fun playing catch up, I like the pressure !! Thanks again to everyone for their patience.

All done with Claire's Moly

All done, and quite a learning experience trying out some of the tips I've garnered from artists on dealing with the yellow card stock of the books versus water based mediums. I've tried to tie in way the ocean and water relate to Claire's bio & beautiful gallery works, so hopefully this isn't to strange!

I'll be passing the book on to Aaron tomorrow, and moving on to Son's, base coat of paint already dried overnight now.

AHHHHHHHHHHH!

I actually made an incredibly stupid mistake when I wrote your address Josh, and received my book in the mail since no one picked it up it was sent back. It's in my possession. I apologize for the mistake and the book is being sent out tomorrow in the morning in a nice new envelope with the correct address. I am 90% finished with Julie's so I'll ship mine first and then I'll ship Julie's to Josh in a day or two. I'm a little behind, been busy with some things that I'm not too happy about. But I'm here and I'm still excited to get these rolling. Sorry to everyone for the inconvenience I will be on top of these !!!!!!!

Lost in mail?

Great work so far everyone.

Rob sent me his moly over a month ago, and I still haven't received it. I checked with my local PO and they're not holding it hostage (or so they claim). Media mail can be painfully slow sometimes, so I haven't given up hope.

What do we do in the worst case scenario?

Gabi?

Hi everyone!

Have you guys got some news from Gabi? I sent her a Flickr Mail last week but got no response. And Son has not received anything from her yet, no book, no e-mail neither... Gabi, please leave a comment to tell us how things are going for you. I hope you still want to take part to this exchange.

I though that if Josh (LarsP) has not sent his book to Gabi yet, he could send it to Son, for this first round only, so that would keep the books moving and let some time to Gabi to finish her entry... What do you guys think about that? I don't want to rush anybody...

Inky Josh the Chicken Master

This my entry into Josh's book. I had to dig deep to get in touch with my inner chicken for this one. Pretty sure those chickens are his minions that he sends out to do his bidding.

Portrait Effigies

I was going for a sort of carnival, Chinese New Year feel. The idea was that my charecters were wearing masks of me, carrying effigies of me, and the like.
Sometimes you get done with something and you look at it, and suddenly, its kinda weird.
This is one of those times. This drawing makes me look like an egomagniac...which i wasnt aware I was. Sometimes you gotta just ignore Fruedian implications, theyll drive you crazy.
Anyway, I might add a wash to the BG, but I prolly wont

This is my entry in Aaron's moleskine, inspired by his wedding pics ;)
I used color pencils, markers and white gouache. I hope you like it Aaron, I had so much fun drawing it!

yellow flower cookie

obviously in need of some colour and background noise to blend in with sir emon's entry...but here's what I have so far.
He's included some great reference pictures so I used bits and pieces form a few of them. I decided to tell the story of how e got his yellow cookie. I may try and make myself look more surprised to have lost an arm.

Susan decided to sit this one out so it is back to 12 of us... I assume most of the moleys are on their way?

Julie's portrait almost done.

I got Julie's book the other day, but I've been a little under the weather. I feel much much better today so I decided to work on her book. She included some photos in her book which I thought were very helpful so I used one of them as reference. It's not complete, I still have to do my portrait and somehow tie both of them together. I hope you guys like it so far ( specially you Julie) I'm shipping my book out tomorrow.

Peace

I feel silly

I have a question:

Once I receive the new moleskine, do I draw another self portrait of myself as well as a portrait of the person it belongs to.... OR just a portrait of the person it belongs to??

And apologies in advance for the super thin pages in my moleskine. It was the first one I'd ever bought and I didn't realize it was very light and thin paper. I hope it doesn't inconvenience any of you. Please feel free to skip pages if you think your drawing will bleed through (sorry Morissa!)

oy!

So i received Brett's Moleskine in the mail a couple days ago, and decided to start sooner rather than later because i know the next few weeks will be very busy for me. Unfortunately, Brett's moleskine has very very thin pages. I did her portrait on one side, and then proceeded to do mine on the page before with pen. i tested a small line out to see if it bleed through, but it didn't seem to. after a bit of drawing i turned to page to find it had completely bleed through onto the portrait i did of her!
Here are the two portraits. i haven't finished mine yet (the pen one)

so my questions for you all and especially Brett;
should i just leave it how it is, redraw it on the next page, or go buy a moleskine with thicker pages and attach Brett's self portrait, my self portrait, and just redraw her portrait??
im just worried other people might encounter the same problem with such thin pages. (she used the type with a card stock cover.)
Well anyway, i should be sending my moly out in the next couple days to josh, hope all is well with everyone!

Lars PD Josh Burg Graf

hello

Im Another Josh
the LarsPowdery one.

I live in Brooklyn New York.
I make storyboards and other drawing related things for an AD Agency in Manhattan, NY.
They used to employ me and mine to make cartoons for the web,
viral Videos,

so now I do this.

Also, I make comics.
I usta animate, the 2D way. But its been a while.

What else? Im 26
I have a sweet heart lady freind who is a singersongwriter
I have a dog, who I miss. Shes hanging out with my parents, in Baltimore, where Im from.
Also of note: Last year I lived in Harlem, Queens and Brooklyn

Thats me up there, the one in the photo...in the office, pointing at the desk i sit at. I have a plant, a Kroton, but u cant see it, just the lil cactus. Its not that Im keeping the kroton from you, its just not in the photo
Ill work on getting some more photos together, of me, but also the Kroton

OKCOOLGONNAgetstarted soon on the XCHange!

woohoo! i finally got around to my entry! This is me in all my Prismacolor glory. I feel like it needs something else on the right but I accidentally started one or two pages in instead of the first one, so i had to heavily decorate the couple of spaces before. I also should warn you that i dont have grey teeth, my colored pencil smudged and made my teeth look grey! woops
You are all such talented artists and i look forward to get this exchange rolling. Also, I have included some photos of me in the set on my flickr labeled WR and moly portraits. hope all is well!

One more...

Ha ha ha...Okay I guess while you were asking Lars, I also had asked Susan Rudat. We originally started with 13 anyway (13 is a lucky number)! Susan got back to me and said she would enjoy the challenge... so NOW the group is really FULL. ;) She is an awesome artist and will fit right in! She should also be posting her bio shortly...

Group full!

Hi everyone!

We have a new member: LarsPowderdry

As we reached the number of 12 participants, we can now consider this group full and ready to start exchanging! (yay!!!)

He is supposed to post his intro shortly, and he said he's okay about the target date of June 1st (or maybe few days extra...).

The shipping order may be final, so please send your address to the person before you if you haven't done already. And don't forget to add some pics of yourself on your flickr page.

Whole lotta me

Josh here.

First I want to say I'm honored and humbled to be participating with such a talented group. I'll try to keep up.

Second, I made a set of photos of me on my flickr site, set to "friends only" status. You will be happy to know I'm fully clothed in most of the pictures.
